Easter Isn’t Just Another Holiday

What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the word Easter? Is it the Easter Bunny? Jelly-Beans? Chocolate? Easter egg hunts? Brunch with your family? How many things would you list off before you mentioned Jesus?

As each Easter comes around, we all get excited. No work. No school. Time to relax and have some good food. We look at Easter as just another holiday. Well, it’s not just another holiday.

Jesus came to this Earth for one reason: To die for our sins. He lived a life free of sin. He loved the unlovable. He forgave the unforgivable. He died a death He didn’t deserve, all so we wouldn’t have to. Just think about that. It should have been me on that cross. It should have been you on that cross. We are full of ugliness and sin. It should have been us hanging on that cross. Yet, Jesus knew that we can account to so much more in life than our sinfulness. For that reason, He came, so that we could live.

Easter is the day Jesus rose from the dead. Easter is the day where we celebrate that Jesus is alive. Easter is the day Jesus completed what he had started. Easter is the day that He said “it is finished.” Easter is not just another holiday.

No one has greater love than this, that one should lay down his life for his friends // John 15:13
